Glasco 1995

Mellon Foundation Project

Mellon Foundation Project

In 1995, Joseph Glasco sat down with Carol Mancusi-Ungaro, then Menil Chief Conservator, and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston Director, Marti Mayo to discuss his artistic process, and specifically, his late abstract collage works. It’s one of the only videos we know of where Joe discussed his work.

The interview was supported by the Mellon Foundation Project and focuses primarily on the materials and methods Glasco used to create his later works. He offers several historical anecdotes regarding other artists, including the New York Abstract Expressionists with whom he spent much of his early career.

The Artists Documentation Program (ADP) interviews artists and their close associates in order to gain a better understanding of their materials, working techniques, and intent for conservation of their works. All interviews are conducted by conservators in a museum or studio setting.

The Artists Documentation Program has been generously supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
